Harvey Williams Cushing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 8, 1869. He graduated from Yale College in 1891 and in 1895 received his M.D. and A.M. degrees from the Harvard Medical School. Madeline Earle Stanton was born on June 9, 1898, in Canton, Massachusetts. After receiving her B.A. degree from Smith College in 1919, she was secretary to Agide Jacchia, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra.
